Chef's Choice

I'm thinking about this for a chef friend's kitchen shower...

Index Chopping Boards - Damian Evans, 2007

The chopping boards are designed to avoid cross-contamination of food types: red/raw meat, white/cooked foods, blue/fish, green/vegetables. Stored in a sleek filing unit.

It's too cool for my counter top, but will work for hers...

Sous chef to chop and dice - not included. Bummer.

Stay tuned. More at 11.

Wedding Belle Update

As some of you may know - Mr. News Readin's sweet sister is tying the knot in October.

She has graciously asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. At first I was just simply honored - but now...now I am over the moon! Check out her bridesmaid dress pick:

It looks navy in the image, but it's really more of a cadet blue. And hellooo...it has pockets!

Every bridesmaid is relieved when the dress choice ends up being something they are not ashamed to wear in public or will be mistaken for a pageant gown or Halloween costume.

An illustration:

She would NEVER pick this...but I've seen some doozies lately that have been chosen by perfectly normal girls. For example - a lavender Grecian drape halter dress. Trust me. It is way worse than it sounds. And it sounds pretty bad in my opinion. (My poor friend Jennifer was subjected to such an atrocity.)

Back to our Belle.

Guess who has been charged with shoe and accessory recommendations? OMG. I'm so excited - I can't even take it.

So, let's hear it from those of you who frequent the Breaking News Room. I know you are chocked-full of chic suggestions. I've got a few of my own already...to be posted at a later date.

I'm not kidding. You are officially being solicited for shoe and accessory finds. There may be some swag for my favorites...

Yours in Bridesmaid Bliss,
Mrs. News Readin'

Edited to add:
Contributing reporter Stereos and Souffles raised some good questions. Good woman!
The wedding ceremony is at 6:00 pm. The groomsmen are not wearing tuxes. Not sure if they have decided on khaki suits or tan trousers and navy sport coats. Flowers will be white.

Stay tuned for more Mrs. News Readin' takes over - ummm - I mean helps plan a wedding.

Tech Savvy Tailgating

Brilliant! And can be monogrammed...

Ordered one of these last night for a soon-to-be-wed couple's Tailgating Essentials Shower:

Hopefully it will be a little more useful beyond a handful of fall weekends in Athens - than red and black coolers, serveware, folding chairs or coozies emblazoned with a big G.

Mr. News Readin' was pleased with the gift decision. Mainly because,
"...waiting 155 days to use it would stink."

Just in case you don't have your 2009 football schedule handy - Georgia takes on South Carolina at home on September 12 or 155 days.

Bet he's keeping a similar count until our wedding anniversary...

It's a date.

Our Wedding Belle has selected October 17, 2009 as her wedding day and we are so excited.

She'll be married in the church both she and the News Readin' Husband were baptized. It's a beautiful little Episcopal church which dates back to the 1880's. You can read a little more history here.

One major hurdle right now...her husband-to-be wants 20 friends to be by his side at the main event. Ten groomsmen and ten ushers. The church is not that large and having ten up at the altar will look very crowded. Like - "Which one is the groom?" crowded. Yikes!

I always thought it was based on guest count - 1 bridesmaid/groomsman per 35-50 guests. Ushers to be added accordingly based on any number over 300 attending the ceremony.

Have any of you recently married lovelies faced the same challenge?

Of course the News Readin' husband and I are much more concerned about helping them choose a signature drink.

Wedding cake martini, anyone?

A News Readin' Wedding Belle

Mr. News Readin' s sister called us Friday night to share some exciting news - she's engaged!
We are so happy for her and her sweet fiance.

Mr. NR and my mother-in-law have gone into full wedding planning mode. We are averaging about two phone calls a day, and probably an email or two off my radar.

It looks like an early fall wedding and Mr. NR wants to make sure it doesn't interfere with:
- SEC football watching
- Sweeps - the time of year when news stations make big deal out of things like garbage collection and city employees using their city-issued cars to road trip it to Tunica. News readers are not allowed to take any time off during these months - no exceptions.

And me? Well, I'm keeping a low profile until my assistance, advice or attendance are requested or required.

I did pick-up my standard newly-engaged gift for her.

From Mottahedeh.

One was given to me when I got engaged. Reading it every night before I place my rings in it, just makes me smile.

I hope it will make our Wedding Belle smile, too.

When bad ideas happen to good people.

Wedding montage videos make me - in a word - nauseous.

It starts off as a sweet sentiment, but let's not kid ourselves. Aside from the bride and groom's parents, no other guests care.

The very least one can do is keep it to a limited viewing at the rehearsal dinner or pre-wedding day festivities.

This video below should have been kept a secret - like identity of Deep Throat - type secret.

My friend attended a wedding where the below video was shown. I have it on good authority that the bride's family thought this video was so brilliant it would have been wasted on the rehearsal dinner crowd, so they showed it to the 300+ guests at the reception.
(Wonder if they are re-thinking that move?)

A few things to note:

1) This is not a joke.
2) If you are going to do something like this - know the words.
3) She must be new to the world of "receptionist" long nails...watch the hands.

Now it's on YouTube and the whole world will know that they hooked pinkies.
Those are some tough first steps for any marriage...
